I grew up watching my mom sew. For hours I would sit and watcher her make everything from costumes, to quilts, to curtains. I didn't think it impacted me until I graduated college, didn't want to get a job in my field and started sewing quilts to get my stress out after long days of substitute teaching.

Sewing was a breath of fresh air. And transforming a flat piece of fabric into a blanket, a shirt, a toy actually felt like magic.

Turns out I am terrible at following directions. Having spent umpteen hours watching my mom sew turned into a source of confidence that I knew how to make something and didn't need a pattern for directions. (this wasn't always true, but I always learned from those times it didn't work)

For the past 12 years I have been running an Etsy shop with my husband Chris. We are PorterandHazel and make custom leather jewelry. But now, I'm ready to take some of the many many projects I have been doing and turn them into patterns and projects for other people to create and enjoy.
